If you or someone you know is in need of shelter, we want to help! You can reach out to us by phone at 802-862-9879, by using any of our quick message forms, or at firstname.lastname@example.org
Our hope in talking with you is to understand your situation and to help you get the resources you need, whether it’s staying with us or finding an alternate program that might be a better fit for you.
You can also find other area resources here.
We work with individuals who are currently homeless or in pending homelessness at the time of initial contact. Since ANEW Place is a sober environment, candidates for shelter must have at least 30 days sobriety and be willing to connect with recovery supports as needed. Some individuals may be ineligible if recent criminal activity is violent in nature and would threaten the safety of our residents.
We ask those looking for shelter to call or stop in to talk with our staff during regular business hours. We will ask you some questions about your situation, why you’re looking for shelter, and your background to determine if our programs are the right fit for you. If we have a bed opening and determine that this is the right place for you, we will invite you for a personal interview and intake at 89 North Street in Burlington, Vermont. If we are currently full, we will put your name on our waitlist and be in touch, should we have an opening in our shelter. When you are invited for an intake, we will ask lots of questions to get a full picture of where you’re coming from and how we can best help you on your journey ahead. We also require a clean drug and alcohol screen at the time of intake. If you are accepted into our programs, you will most likely be placed in a bed the same day.
You can expect a safe, clean environment, including a community room, kitchen, separate men’s and women’s bathrooms and dorm-style living. You will meet a team of caring staff and volunteers and you will be given a delicious, home-cooked meal every night. We will provide you with any needed personal items and clothing, and we will do our absolute best to connect you with any resources that you may need to be successful. You can also expect to receive one-on-one case management support with a holistic approach tailored to your needs. At ANEW Place, we care about you as you are and want to help you forward towards change with the tools you need.
Since you are making our house your temporary home, we ask all guests to participate in keeping the house clean and friendly. We expect all who stay here to be respectful and considerate of others at all times. We expect you to abide by the house rules, help out as needed, and participate in community here at ANEW Place. We ask you to be honest with us and we require that you meet weekly with our case manager to work on your personalized plan for transition back into the community. Every person is unique, and so every plan is also unique. We encourage you to work towards the goals that you and your case manager create together.
There is no defined limit to the number of days a guest can stay with us, because we understand that everyone’s situation is different and it takes time to rebuild and start anew. The typical stay is 3-6 months in our downstairs shelter program, and 5 months in our ANEW Leaf transitional housing program upstairs.
